Camp Agape 2008 Portland Oregon Aug 9th 2008
This past week we went to camp with my family, my
daughter being a cancer survivor. We go to this camp for a few years now. In
the beginning, when our daughter was freshly diagnosed. This
is a yearly camp for children with cancer and deadly disease and their families
as well as families as families with children that had cancer. It's an oasis of
hope for these families that go through so much.
During
the 6 days, the duration of this camp, the organizers, volunteer their time to
make the families and their children have fun and relax. They offer all sorts
of activities for children and for adults as well. The fun began with arts and
crafts, magician tricks, rock climbing, trampoline jumps, slides, jet boats, camp
fire, play ground, massages, haircuts, nail painting, face painting, fishing,
Mad Scientist from OSU, buddy program (each children is accompanied by an teenager
for a period of time, so the parents have some time of their own), fishing (catch
and release), swimming in the river, karaoke, dancing, clean private or shared
cabin, tent spots, volleyball, pink pong and good food.
The
three meals are home style prepared by an army of volunteers that take time off
to dedicate this time just for this. Below are the families and the volunteers
that put so much love and dedication to organize this. May God bless them for
all their great effort.
